The Institute for Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) has recently published its first guidance on retrofitting buildings. Authored by our tutor in retrofit Professor John Edwards, the guidance promotes an holistic approach to improving the energy efficiency of traditional buildings. The guidance will feature in relevant Environment Study Centre courses, including the SQA Level 3 Award in the energy efficiency and retrofit of traditional buildings. It is free to access was launched at the IHBC Annual School earlier this month. Speaking at the launch Professor Edwards said: ‘This guidance, based on BS7913, sets out a process that properly addresses heritage and technical issues’. Edwards added: ‘As part of this guidance we are also developing a process which provides a proportionate approach to analysing and managing significance to non designated buildings’.
