Understanding Dampness and Flooding in Buildings

Course Description

This one day CPD course will help delegates understand where condensation and dampness can occur, its measurement, its effects on buildings and people, how to deal with the causes of dampness and not just the symptoms and preventing or managing dampness. It will also deal with flooding and how to properly understand the effects of flooding, the optimum ways in which to dry out buildings and reinstate them. Damp related issues concerning retrofit will also be evaluated as well as the links between heat loss and energy efficiency. The course will be based upon best practice stands and to the same rigour and professional standards as our ‘accredited’ Government approved courses. An Environment Study Centre Certificate will be awarded on completion of this course. Training will be delivered by expert practitioner, researcher, educator and author Professor John Edwards, MA, DipBldgCons, CEnv, FCIOB, FRICS, IHBC, Director of Edwards Hart Consultants, Professor in Practice at the University of Wales Trinity St David. John is a Chartered Building Surveyor and building pathologist who commenced the investigation of building defects in 1981 and has since worked on a range of buildings from domestic scale new and old to castles and cathedrals. John has authored and co-authored guidance and standards on the inspection and survey of buildings as well as numerous articles. Click here for more information.
